"A trip to Porto, the second largest city in Portugal, is incomplete without a boat trip down the Douro River or an exploratory drive through the Douro Valley. The views of endless rolling hills covered with vines and olive trees will be imprinted in my mind forever.
Running almost 900 kms from the Atlantic Ocean, the river leads to countless immaculately terraced vineyards, producing Portugal's delicious fortified nectar, Port. For centuries, Port barrels would be loaded onto traditional flat bottom rabelo boats and transported to the port cellars located across the river from Porto in Vila Nova de Gaia. The Douro winemaking region was declared a World Heritage Site in 2001."
